Reports to: Head of IS

Technical Relation with: 3 Librarians/Data, 1 Library assistant

Job Function:

  • Operations: This is a management position, with sufficient corporate authority to ensure that data management practices are implemented, supported with adequate resources, and adhered to.

    The key objectives of the Information manager are :
    • Guarantee the integrity and security of Addax Petroleum technical records in compliance with national legislation and regulations
    • Improve access to information: company technical records and external published information
    • Contribute to standardize Physical and Digital record preservation policies and tools throughout the company

    As manager of the Addax Petroleum Geneva Data Centre, the Information Manager will manage a team of librarians and record management professionals that:
    • Routinely capture all records within the scope of the business activities covered (internal and external documents)
    • Organize the records in a way that reflects the business processes of their originator
    • Protect the records from unauthorized alteration or disposition
    • Routinely function as the primary source of information
    • Provide ready access to all relevant records and related metadata
    • Manage the archives organization, storage and retention

    The Data Centre will provide the following services:
    • Indexing and filing of physical and electronic data and documents
    • Scanning, OCR, verification, merging, labeling/naming and filing in the virtual library
    • Management of offsite data storage
    • Data receipt and transmittal
    • Data searches
    • Subscription management
    • Circulation of periodicals

    Technical Final documents (Records/Archives):
    • Final documents
    • Raw data (tapes and samples)
    • Reports
    • Logs
    • Maps
    • Contracts and agreements
    • Some drilling documents

    Published Information (Library):
    • Periodicals
    • Books

    Principal Accountabilities:
    • Manage a team of librarians, data archiving and technical record management professionals, using the standard HR tool-set
    • Manage the APS Data Center Budget in coordination with Finance and Head of IS
    • Manage external suppliers and contracts in coordination with Procurement
    • Ensure the definition and maintenance of corporate data and information management practices - standards, procedures, tools, and techniques
    • Lead and execute Data Management improvement projects in close collaboration with technical managers
    • Ensure smooth and progressive change management in this area
    • Monitor that data management strategies, standards and guidelines are adhered to

    Supervision exercised:
    • Supervise the Data Centre team (3.3 internal resources)
    • Service management of a partially outsourced services (back-office data management, archiving and storage)
    • Data Centre Budget (2M USD/yr)
  • Studies: Master’s degree in Information Science, preferably preceded by a degree or comparable qualification or Petroleum Engineering

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Speak French and English both fluently
  • Sound business knowledge of Petroleum Exploration and Production, gained through industry experience
    • Must have worked in Addax Petroleum, an E&P company or an E&P Service company for a minimum of five years
    • Must have worked as a Manager, with operational and strategic responsibilities, within an operating E&P company for a minimum of five years
  • A global business perspective
    • Demonstrates a clear understanding of global and strategic requirements
    • Is able to think strategically and tactically and differentiate between immediate project requirements and long term requirements. Understands the relative priorities of both sets of requirements and is able to co-ordinate work to take account of such priorities
  • Well respected in the industry, with the authority to get things done
    • Must have the interpersonal and problem solving skills, combined with the focus and determination, to win the confidence and respect of end users at all levels
  • An in-depth knowledge of current technologies, including geo-science, engineering and information technologies
    • A broad knowledge of information systems
    • A clear understanding of technology directions
  • A strong commitment to, and understanding of, information management systems/processes and the importance of information and data management
    • Has a clear understanding of information and data management requirements
    • Has a clear understanding of the level of data management maturity within Addax Petroleum
