Reports to: Exploration Manager Gabon

Technical Relation with: Geology & Geophysics Functional Manager

Main interfaces: Exploration Manager, Technical Team Manager and Gabon Team; Seismologists, Geologists, Petrophysicists, Reservoir Engineers, Economists, Technical Assistants, Government Representatives, Partners and other Third Parties.

Job Function:

  • Senior Geologist: Responsible for leading geological and geophysical technical evaluation to ensure effective and timely progress in any assigned basin towards Team objectives
    1. Mature prospect portfolio for drilling
    2. Add reserves through accurate & consistent risk & volumetric assessments
    3. Develop regional & detailed play understanding & develop new play ideas
    4. Operations Planning & support
    5. Team development & support
    • Identify key subsurface project drivers and formulate / recommend suitable and detailed Technical Evaluation Programmes (TEP) to ensure thorough and timely technical evaluation of exploration assets, including volumetrics and risks
    • Undertake and lead focused regional analysis to advance play understanding and to produce TEP products
    • Complete Prospect and Lead inventory through rigorous and systematic completion of TEP
    • Present results and recommendations to Gabon & peer technical review Teams
    • Initiate beneficial opportunities for data trades
    • Prepare and submit Approval to Drill (ATD) documents and provide all necessary inputs to drilling programme preparation and execution
    • Maintain daily geological drilling data (data integrity, maintenance and accessibility) across Addax Petroleum (APS, Operating companies and third parties, as required)
    • Maintain, while drilling, daily updates of well and mud log correlations, x-sections, maps and well trajectories
    • Advise, while drilling, on drilling departure from plans and propose corrective action, advise on casing, coring points, logging, perforations and TD
    • Contribute to detailed field development plans, reservoir and field reviews to identify appraisal, development and infill drilling opportunities
    • Provide geological support to New Ventures, exploration and acreage evaluation, as required
  • Other: Mentor Team Geologists from Asset and Operating companies or Government organisations, represent the interests of the Asset in discussions with Government entities partners and other Third Parties.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • At least 15 years experience in clastic and/or carbonate reservoir geology (drilling operations, 3D static sedimentology and diagenetic modelling, and/or fractures and faults modelling), with involvement in exploration, appraisal and field development activities with an Operating oil company.
  • Understanding of fluid properties and dynamics, risk and uncertainty analysis and volumetric estimates.
  • Fully conversant in the use of G&G databases, geological interpretation PC-based software (e.g. Petrel Geographix). Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Operational experience in West Africa and/or Middle-East with an Operating oil company.
  • Operational experience as a wellsite geologist with an Operating oil company.
  • Advanced skills in 3D seismic and petrophysical interpretation.
  • Strong skills in the use of 3D geological modelling, basin modelling and structural restoration software (e.g. Petrel, Basinmod & 2D,3DMove).
