Addax Petroleum policy recognizes that a good performance in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) is an integral part of an efficient and prudent business management. This policy is expressed throughout the group by continued efforts to create safe work environment for employees, contractors and the public. To underscore this expression, we promote interactive relationship with all stakeholders and accord due considerations to concerns whenever expressed.
We work to continuously improve on our HSE performance by diligent implementation of the following principles:
Leadership and Commitment: Management provides leadership on health, safety and environmental matters and demonstrates commitment by regular safety tours of facilities, sponsorship and participation in promotional programs and activities. We sponsor periodic third party audits of our HSE performance and implement recommendations.
Training and Safe Operations: Employees (including contractors staff), on engagement, are inducted on the group’s HSE policy and work procedures and taught Safety Observation skills. Compliance with the policy and work procedures is a condition of employment. Regular training, safety meetings and emergency response drills are conducted. Training needs are evaluated periodically and program implemented to fill gaps to enable employees perform duties responsibly with due regard to health, safety and environment. Task Risk Assessments of activities are conducted regularly and control measures instituted to eliminate or mitigate HSE impact.
Incident Reporting and Investigation: There is a thriving two-way communication on HSE matters; incidents (including near misses) are documented, investigated and recommendations closed out. The “No Blame” culture on HSE incidents practiced, encourages reporting, spotlight deficiencies and helps in preventing the reoccurrence of similar incident. Lessons learnt, in addition, are shared throughout the group.
Environment: The protection and conservation of the environment is a fundamental element of the group’s policy. Committment to this is demonstrated by assurance that new projects conform to applicable environmental standards and the periodic upgrade of existing facilities. Waste management policy promotes minimization and recycling. We collaborate with groups to promote awareness and continuously re-evaluate performance to ensure compliance.
